Course Description:
This course is developed with the goal of helping students enjoy reading. Movies and TV can never truly capture the full ability of a persons imagination. Students will be introduced to a selection of English literature that will not only expose them to Western culture and thinking but also give them a renewed interest in written language. Through the novel The Phantom Tollbooth students will be exposed to vocabulary, grammar, and literary English in a way that teaches them without the mind-numbing dullness of a textbook. Students will get a chance to experience what happens if an English idiom is taken very literally.
Podcast English 英語小記者
Course Description:The main aim is to develop students’ intonation, rhythm and pronunciation through English podcast. Students will watch a ready-made podcast, and try to conduct and videotape a short interview. This course will provide them with tips for designing open-ended questions, conducting an interview, using proper facial expressions, writing introduction, and transcribing interviewee’s talk. At the end of the course students will also learn from one another’s works.
Let’s Talk Hollywood: Take the Lead戲說好萊塢
Course Description: The main aim is to encourage students to talk more and study dance-related vocabulary through a variety of class activities. This course will introduce some frequently-used English vocabulary of ballroom dancing and its history, especially the meanings behind the different dances. Students will familiar themselves with those useful English expressions through interesting conversation practice, interactive games, peer work tasks, and excited competition activities.
English Labyrinth 英語迷宮
Course Description: The main aim is to inspire students’ interests in speaking English through a variety of class activities. This course will introduce some frequently-used travel English expressions, especially how to ask for and give directions. Students will familiar themselves with those useful English expressions through interesting conversation practice, online interactive games and excited competition activities.
Learning English through Ballroom Dance-Waltz 舞動英文
Course Description:This course is designed to encourage student to learn English through ballroom dance, Waltz.
1. Content Goal: Students will appreciate the short video about Waltz and enjoy the music.
2. Language Goal: Students will improve listening ability by listening what teacher says, and also improve speaking ability by asking questions.
3. Learning Goal: Students will learn to dance basic Waltz.
English and Western Culture through Music 聽音樂學英文
Course Description:This course will give students an opportunity to experience English outside of textbooks through immersion into Western music. Students will listen to short sections of American music from the last century and be invited to share their opinions on it. Students will then be shown how song lyrics are not only interesting but are a legitimate way to broaden their English idiom and slang usage. Several genres of music will be heard and students will talk about what things they can extract about American culture from these songs.
